Shriyanka wins silver in Asian shooting meet

Odia shooter Shriyanka Sadangi added yet another feather to her cap by winning a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event of the 5th Asian Air Gun Shooting Championship at Nanchang in China today. The three-member Indian team was comprised of Olympian Anjali Bhagwat, Mampi Das and Shriyanka. The gold medal in the event was bagged by China.

This was 17-year-old Shriyanka’s first international medal in the senior category and eighth overall in the current year. A first-year arts student of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Shriyanka’s previous major achievement was a gold in women`s individual 10m air rifle event and a silver in the team event of the Junior International Shooting Championship at Suhl, Germany in June this year.

Shriyanka, who hails from Sambalpur, is the daughter of Army officer Col Sitanshu Charan Sarangi and Sudha Sarangi. She has been training at the Khel Ratna Awardee Gagan Narang’s shooting academy Gun for Glory at Pune and representing ONGC in National championships.
